Upcoming IGGR Members & Friends meetings in 2026, all at 6:30 pm at Fountain Street Church:
January 26: This meeting will kick off with a short performance by the Grand Rapids Girls’ Choral Academy. We will be presenting our full campaign for this election year so you can prepare to get involved to help us turn around key seats up and down the ballot. Special Guest Kathy Harris from ProActive will also speak. We will be serving beer and wine. Please bring a snack to share. Free childcare will be provided from 6:15 to 8:15pm in the Mezzanine overlooking the Social Hall where the meeting takes place.
February 23: Dr. Kristin Oldenberg, the new Medical Director at the Kent County Health Department, will share information about current health services offered by the County. After overall high living costs, healthcare is the next hottest issue for Kent County residents. This presentation will prepare you with helpful information to support your discussions on this topic with friends and family. We will also have a Volunteer Fair at this meeting so you can sign up to support specific initiatives.
March 23: “Opposing Tyranny with Nonviolent Civil Resistance.” Professor Gary Stark will talk about the various forms of non-violent resistance that individuals can take
New: We are now providing free babysitting during the meetings!
Tuesday, January 20 at 2 - 5 pm. {Grand Rapids} Free America Walkout. Meet in front of the Van Andel Arena, and we will march on the sidewalks through our city, making sure to pass by the courthouse and the police station downtown. Bring signs, or whatever else you may need. Remember, this is a peaceful protest. One year into Trump’s second regime, we face an escalating fascist threat: raids on our communities, troops occupying our cities, attacks on immigrants, families torn apart, mass surveillance, and terror used to keep us silent. 2025 was a year of marches that showed our collective strength. On January 20, we call on our communities to turn your back and walk out on fascism. Sponsored by the Women’s March.
Wednesday, January 21 at 12 pm. Protect Social Security Rally at the Social Security Office, 3045 Knapp St NE.

When Grand Rapids decides to spend our public money, especially on development, who benefits and who decides? Grand Rapids City Commission elections are coming up in 2026. What are our priorities for development and our public money? Will the broader community benefit or just a select few? Join Together West Michigan to learn how you can help set the agenda. Choose from one of three sessions below at Fountain Street Church. Register for an event here. Hosted by Together West Michigan
